Watch for scissor-tailed flycatchers perched on electric wires in towns and along barbed wire fences in more rural areas. Challenge your road trip friends to a flycatcher counting contest or look for large evening roosts of migrating birds later this fall.

Explore a Local Park or Natural Area

Appreciation is a first step in conservation and one way to appreciate scissortails is to appreciate their habitat. Look for our state bird and other songbirds as they hunt insects in open or scrubby prairie areas in your favorite park.
