Black Mesa: Pinyon-Juniper Shrubland

               Area: 21,978 acres (8,894 ha)

               Description of Mapped Type: This type forms sparse woodlands or shrublands dominated by
               one-seed juniper and two-needle pinyon.  Common shrubs include skunkbush sumac, mountain
               mahogany, and Gambel oak.  Grasses may include sideoats, blue, and hairy grama, sand
               dropseed, and tobosa.  Soapweed yucca and tree cholla are common succulents.
