+ Valentine and Stansbery (1971) cast doubt that this is a valid record, pointing out that there are
no other records of E. dilatata from the Red River system and that the Kiamichi River
specimens don’t exhibit the purple nacre common in most populations and finally that E.
dilatata is extremely similar to P. occidentalis.
++ Valentine and Stansbery (1971) and Branson (1984) both cast some doubt on this record.
There are no available voucher specimens from Oklahoma or for that matter, the Red River
system.
Little River
The Little River arises in the southeastern portion of LeFlore County and flows
eastward paralleling the Kiamichi River into Pushmataha County and turns south and
slightly east into McCurtain County where it finally veers east and passes out of
Oklahoma into Arkansas where it joins the Red River just northeast of Texarkana.
