Eastern Small-footed Bat
(Myotis leibii)
Wingspan: 8 – 10 inches.
Total Length: 3 – 3.25 inches.
Color: Fur is golden-brown and glossy above and Greg Sievert
paler below. Ears and wings are black.
Over-Wintering Behavior: Hibernates.
Preferred Daytime Roost: Crevices of cliffs,
buildings, bridges and rock piles.
Evening Flight Time: Emerges shortly
after sunset.
Feeding/Flying Behavior: Flies slowly and
erratically 3 to 10 feet above the ground.
Pup Development Period: Early May to unknown.
In Hand: Black mask.
Cool Fact: The Eastern small-footed bat is one of the last bat species in North
America to begin hibernation.
