Ozark-Ouachita: Dry-Mesic Mixed Oak – Evergreen Forest
Area: 101,103 acres (40,915 ha)
Description of Mapped Type: This type was mapped over slopes >20% and on low flats below
hills or mountains. Composition is similar to the Ozark-Ouachita: Dry-Mesic Oak Forest type,
with the addition of shortleaf pine (or loblolly pine, mainly in the south) as a common
component. These mainly closed-canopy forests may contain white oak, hickory species, black
oak, northern red oak, and chinkapin oak as important species. This type may also include
areas where forestry practices have increased the dominance of pine.
