Sans Bois WMA covers 7,602.40 acres in southeast Haskell County, Oklahoma. The area is located south of McCurtain, about 2.5 miles south of Highway 31.
The area provides a variety of upland habitats, including forested ridges of oak/pine/hickory, with reclaimed rock mining areas adding diversity to the area and the northernmost portions having some native grass and wetland areas. The terrain is diverse, ranging from nearly flat to rocky and steep.
From Highway 31 at McCurtain: take S County Rd 3720 (W 1st Ave) south. Continue approximately 1.8 miles to E1300 Rd. Go east on E1300 Rd approximately .5 miles to northwest corner of north boundary of WMA.
- Quail: Bobwhite quail are present in low numbers.
- Deer: White-tailed deer are present.
- Turkey: Eastern turkeys are present.
- Rabbit: Cottontails are present.
- Squirrel: Gray and fox squirrels are present.
- Furbearers: Coyote, gray fox, bobcat and raccoon are available.
Prescribed fire will be the dominant management tool utilized on the area, with both dormant and growing season burns conducted as prescribed fire infrastructure is developed. Woody vegetation control, increased daylighting and forb/native grass production will be the goal.
Primitive camping is available at the entrance to the WMA, as well as at the designated walk-in campground located at 35.110893, -94.964837.
Fishing opportunities exist on the area but are limited.
