Purpose
The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation’s Boating Access Program provides 75/25 matching grants for the planning, construction, and improvement of public boating access facilities in Oklahoma. These facilities may include boat ramps, courtesy docks, parking areas, restrooms, and other essential infrastructure to support recreational boating activities.
Source of Funds
Funding is provided through the Boating Access subprogram of the Sport Fish Restoration Grant Program and sourced from federal excise taxes on boats, outboard motors, electric trolling motors, and the percentage of federal fuel tax attributable to motorboats. The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation acts as a pass-through agency for the Boating Access subprogram and subawards funding to local governments and other state/federal agencies for boating access facility development or renovation.
Eligibility Requirements
- Fund at least 25% of the total costs for the proposed project (in-kind contributions are ineligible)
- Own or have full rights to use the proposed project area for the duration of the project’s useful time
- Demonstrate the capacity to manage and maintain the proposed facilities for the duration of the project’s useful time
- Proposed facilities remain open to the public free of charge for the duration of the project’s useful time
- Proposed facilities must compile with Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements
How to Apply
Municipalities or agencies requesting grant funds to develop, expand, or renovate boating access facilities must submit an application to the Boating Access Coordinator.
