Unlike the name might imply, jerkbaits might be the nicest lure in your tacklebox on certain occassions!
Jerkbaits are long and slender hard-bodied lipped lures meant to be fished erratically with a reel, pop and pause retrieve. The lure will violently twitch from side to side when reeled, but it will stop and slowly rise when the retrieve is paused. Most strikes occur during the pause.
This is an effective lure for schooling predatory fish. Smaller versions of jerkbaitts are also a great lure option for bass in rivers and creeks.
Jerkbaits typically have silver, white or clear bodies with different colored shades along the back. Stick from reddish to lighter colored backs in clay stained water, flashy colored backs in dingy water and natural or dark colored backs in clear water.
