Unlike the name might imply, jerkbaits might be the nicest lure in your tackle box on certain occassions!
Jerkbaits are long and slender hard-bodied lipped lures meant to be fished erratically with a pop, pause and reel retrieve. The lure will violently twitch from side to side when the rod tip is popped in a downward direction, but it will stop and slowly rise when the retrieve is paused. Most strikes occur during the pause.
This is an effective lure for schooling predatory fish. Smaller versions of jerkbaits are also a great lure option for bass in rivers and creeks.
Jerkbaits typically have silver, white or clear bodies with different colored shades along the back. Stick with red or dark colored jerkbaits in clay stained water, flashy colored jerkbaits in dingy water and natural colored jerkbaits in clear water.
