Equipment
The camera is the most important tool in photography, and the best camer for capturing birds is a DSLR equippd with a telephot lens. However, mobile devices and point-and-shoot camers are excellent for those with a new interest in bird photography.
- Camera - DSLR cameras offer quick focusing and fast shutter speeds (important for bird photography!).
- Tripod/Monopod - Tripods stabilize the camer and help minimize blur.
- Telephoto Lens - A 200-500mm lens is perfect for backyard birds.
Imagery Techniques
- Rule of Thirds - The rule of thirds is applied by aligning the subject(s) with guidelines or their intersection points, and placing the horizon on the top or bottom line.
- Lighting - To achieve even lighting without shadows, the best time for photography is either during the early monring or late afternoons. The same timing applies for birds as well.
- Set-Up - Watch the birds to determine where they frequently perch so you can position yourself with a good line of sight.
