In the video above, communication & education specialist Shawn Gee gives tips on teaching a new angler how to cast.
The old adage says that if you teach someone to fish, you can feed them for life. But how do you do that?
Well, at some point you'll have to address the art of casting. It can be frustrating enough to master the skill yourself, much less help someone else learn to cast. But according to research, mentorship in outdoors skills is exactly what's needed if sportsmen and women wish to see their outdoor heritage passed down. Conservation in Oklahoma is funded primarily by hunters and anglers when they purchase hunting and fishing licenses and certain outdoor gear. But new hunters and anglers don't appear out of thin air. They are mentored, taught, and taken along for the fun. That support from a mentor is key to helping a newcomer continue in their outdoor pursuits with confidence, until they are comfortable with their skills and newfound identity as an angler. Then they can pass along the heritage as well!
In this video, we provide tips on how you can help someone learn to cast a basic spincasting setup.
