Dewey County WMA covers 212 acres in Dewey County in northwest Oklahoma. Located approximately 4 miles west of Taloga, this tract is western Oklahoma bottomland habitat and lays adjacent to the Canadian River. Habitat consists of a cottonwood/elm overstory with Eastern red cedar understory and sandplum in open areas. Water resources are provided by the Canadian River and intermittent springs. One windmill and overflow pond is also available. Annual precipitation for the area is approximately 27 inches. 

From Taloga: 1 mile north on State Hwy 183, 3.8 miles west on county blacktop road (E0665, to N2240, to E0670), 1½ miles south on N2230 to parking area. Access to Dewey County WMA is foot access only from a parking area at the northwest corner of the WMA. Hip waders may be necessary to access the WMA during wet periods.

  • Quail: Bobwhite quail may be present in low numbers.
  • Deer: White-tailed deer may be present in low numbers
  • Turkey: Rio Grande turkeys may be present in low numbers in the spring. 
  • Rabbit: Cottontail rabbits are present in fair numbers.
  • Furbearers: Coyote, bobcat and raccoons are available. 
  • Dove: Very limited dove use on area.
  • Bald Eagle: May occasionally be observed along the Canadian River during winter months.

Habitat management on Dewey County WMA primarily involves prescribed grazing, eastern red cedar control and controlled burning.

No camping facilities are available on Dewey County WMA. Lodging and restaurants are available at Seiling and Taloga.

A rifle range is not available on this WMA.

Fishing opportunities are limited to the South Canadian River.

Open to water sets, live box traps and enclosed trigger traps only through Jan 31. Open same as statewide Feb 1 through end of February.

One-tom limit; seasons combined.
