Youth deer gun season is this weekend Oct. 14-16, 2022.

Our top tip? Buy three youth deer gun licenses!  At just $10 per license, it's a bargain and good insurance.
Yes, the youth deer gun season limit is two deer – with no more than one being antlered. That means a youth hunter can either a) harvest two does; or b) harvest one doe and one buck.

So, why three licenses?

If a youth hunter heads to the field with two antlerless licenses and one antlered license, then that hunter will be able to harvest either combination mentioned above during the youth deer gun season (with the exception that harvest of antlerless mule deer is prohibited).

If these licenses go unfilled during the youth deer gun season, they are valid for the regular deer gun season in November as well as the holiday antlerless deer gun season in December (except of course, antlered youth deer gun licenses are not valid for holiday antlerless deer gun season).

All deer taken during the youth deer gun season are included in the hunter’s combined season limit of six deer, but are not included as part of the hunter’s regular deer gun season limit of four deer.

Plus, youth deer gun season takes place early enough in the year that deer are often still easy to pattern, while also allowing kids to go deer gun hunting with adult supervision before all of the adult gun hunters head to the woods.

If you haven’t caught on yet, the youth deer gun season is a very accommodating way to provide a youth with the joys of deer hunting in Oklahoma. There’s very little risk and great reward in purchasing three tags now to make way for several gun hunting opportunities as the year progresses.
